Eating more fruits and vegetables regularly may make diabetes mellitus less likely to occur in men and women.
This study looked at the relationship between generous consumption of fruits and vegetables and the onset of diabetes mellitus among adults. A total of 9,665 US adult men and women aged 25-74 years participated in this study and were assessed for their diets and incidence of diabetes mellitus.
Researchers noted that diabetes mellitus was less likely to occur among high consumers of fruits and vegetables than in infrequent consumers of these plant foods. This study provides material evidence that diets high in fruits and vegetables may substantially reduce the incidence of diabetes mellitus in the general population.
