Consistent consumption of fruits and vegetables is associated with reduced total mortality risk.

The purpose of this study is to investigate whether an association exists between the consumption of fruits and vegetables and all-cause mortality risk. Researchers monitored the mortality records and tracked the diets of 150,969 middle-aged and older adults recruited from the Australia Cohort Study. Researchers found a low incidence of deaths among frequent consumers of fruits and vegetables. The results of this study indicate that high intake of diets rich in fruits and vegetables may cut down odds of dying from chronic diseases and other causes.
