Consumption of vegetables and fruits and risk of subtypes of head-neck cancer in the Netherlands Cohort Study.

The risk of developing cancers of the head and neck, such as oral, pharyngeal, and laryngeal cancers, goes down with the consumption of fruits and vegetables.

​This study evaluated the impact of high fruit and vegetable diets on the odds of acquiring cancers of the head and neck region, such as oral, pharyngeal, and laryngeal cancer. Researchers compared the fruit and vegetable intake levels of 415 patients diagnosed with oral, laryngeal, or pharyngeal cancer with that of 3,898 healthy subjects.

Researchers found out that more frequent consumption of vegetables and fruits cut down the risk of developing oral, pharyngeal, and laryngeal cancer. The data from this study indicate that generous ingestion of fruits and vegetables may reduce an individual's susceptibility to cancers occurring in the head and neck region.
