High dietary ingestion of fruits and vegetables may have a positive effect on the mental health of men and women.

This study explored the impact of regular intake of fruits and vegetables on mental health. With the aid of validated food frequency questionnaires, researchers collated and analyzed the dietary data of 5,845 Australian men and women. The mental health of all the participants was also assessed at multiple times during the course of the study.

After 5 years of follow up, researchers observed that participants on high fruit and vegetable diets experienced a significant improvement in their mental health. This 2021 study of Australian men and women revealed that creating more space for fruits and vegetables in our plates may be beneficial for our mental health.
