High dietary total antioxidant capacity is associated with a reduced risk of hypertension in French women.

Indulgence in foods rich in antioxidants may reduce the risk of hypertension in women.

This study examined the correlation between high dietary exposure to antioxidants and the occurrence of hypertension in women. Researchers compared the diets of 31,226 healthy French women with that of 9,350 women diagnosed with hypertension over a 12-year period.

Researchers noted that the chances of developing hypertension were 15% lower in women who consumed the most amounts of foods high in antioxidants than in their counterparts who ate little or none of these foods. This study demonstrates that adequate intake of foods packed with antioxidants may help fight off hypertension in women.
