Coffee and fetal death: a cohort study with prospective data.

Fondness for coffee may make fetal death more likely to occur in pregnant women.

This study assessed whether an association exists between coffee consumption and fetal death. A group of scientists from Denmark surveyed a total of 88,482 pregnant women for 6 years. An estimated 1,102 cases of fetal death were recorded throughout the duration of the study.

The research team discovered that fetal deaths occurred with greater frequency among pregnant women with high intake of coffee. The findings of this study reveal that coffee consumption during pregnancy may heighten the risk of fetal death.
