The chances of experiencing cognitive decline and dementia are high in elderly individuals who are smokers.

‚ÄčThis study reviewed evidence from scientific literature that assessed the connection between smoking and the probability of acquiring dementia and cognitive decline. Researchers compiled data from 19 studies that examine more than 40,000 subjects with a mean age of 74 years. 

Data analysis revealed that cigarette smoking promoted the development of dementia and decline of cognitive abilities. Evidence from this study show that cigarette smoking may be tied to a higher risk of dementia and cognitive decline in elderly individuals.
