Cigarette smoking and colorectal cancer risk in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition study.
Cigarette smokers may have high propensity to develop colon cancer
This study determined the role of cigarette smoking in the development of colorectal cancer. Researchers compared smoking habits with the odds of developing colorectal cancer among 465,879 men and women who participated in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition Study.
The team of investigators found far higher rates of colon cancer among current smokers compared to never smokers. Evidence from this study indicate that cigarette smoking may put an individual at high risk of developing colon cancer.
