Women with high intake of caffeine before and during pregnancy may have a high tendency to suffer from recurrent miscarriages.

This study investigated how high dietary intake of caffeine affects a woman's risk of suffering from recurrent miscarriages without cause (sine causa). A group of Italian researchers took a detailed look at data on the caffeine consumption habits of 52 sine causa recurrent miscarriers and 260 healthy pregnant women.

The research team discovered that habitual drinking of caffeinated beverages prior to conception and during pregnancy put women at high risk of having recurrent miscarriages. This study points out that increase in the frequency of caffeine ingestion before and during pregnancy may be a factor that contributes to the occurrence of recurrent miscarriages in pregnant women..
