A meta-analysis of risk of pregnancy loss and caffeine and coffee consumption during pregnancy.

Miscarriage is more likely to occur in women who consume coffee and caffeine products during pregnancy.

This study assessed the risk of pregnancy loss associated with coffee and caffeine consumption during pregnancy through a systematic review. Researchers pooled data from 26 studies that analyzed the connection between the intake of coffee and caffeine and pregnancy loss.

Researchers observed that women who drank coffee and caffeinated products during pregnancy had higher risk of suffering from miscarriages than their counterparts who never drank these types of beverages. Daily intake of 2 cups of coffee and 150 mg of caffeine was found to increase risk of pregnancy loss by 8% and 19% respectively in this study. Data from this study show that pregnant women who are caffeine and coffee lovers may be highly vulnerable to miscarriages.
