A surge in bladder cancer risk is associated with high intake of red and processed meats.

​This study examined if there is a link between frequent consumption of red and processed meats and elevated risk of bladder cancer using a meta-analytic approach. Researchers included data from 25 studies that assessed more than 15,000 cases of bladder cancer. 

Researchers discovered that diets that encourage the intake of processed meats promoted the development of bladder cancer. The risk of bladder cancer was found to increase in Americans who are lovers of red meat and processed meats products by 25% and 33% respectively. The findings of this meta-analysis demonstrate that Americans who indulge in red and processed meats may have a high probability of acquiring bladder cancer.
