Consistent consumption of eggs and other cholesterol-rich foods may increase cardiovascular disease incidence and mortality risk.

This study looked at the connection between dietary intake of eggs and cholesterol and the likelihood of developing and dying from cardiovascular disease. Data on the dietary habits and cardiovascular disease incidence of 29,615 men and women were obtained through self-reported dietary questionnaires and hospital records.

Researchers discovered that avid consumption of eggs and other cholesterol-rich foods raised the risk of acquiring and dying from cardiovascular disease. According to this study, each half egg consumed increased cardiovascular disease development and mortality risk by 6% and 8% respectively. In addition, an 18% elevation in heart disease mortality risk was observed in participants who consumed additional 300 mg of cholesterol per day. The authors recommended that the results of this study should be considered in the development and update of dietary guidelines.
