The association between HIV infection and alcohol use: a systematic review and meta-analysis of African studies.

Alcohol consumption may increase an individual's risk of being infected with HIV.

​This research work reviewed data from relevant literature that analyzed the relationship between alcohol drinking and the incidence of HIV in Africa. A total of 11 studies were included in this meta-analysis. 

Researchers noted that alcohol consumption resulted in increased risk of contracting HIV infection. This study recommended that discouraging the intake of alcohol might help to reduce the soaring rates of HIV in Africa.
