This meta-analysis assessed whether alcohol drinking and cigarette smoking are tied to higher risk of biliary tract cancer. Researchers utilized lifestyle and health data drawn out from a pool of 26 studies.
Researchers observed that as the rate of alcohol consumption increases, the probability of developing intrahepatic bile duct cancer rises. A significant elevation in the risk of all biliary tract cancer with the exception of gallbladder cancer was found among former and current smokers in this study. The data from this study reveal that alcohol intake and smoking may promote the development and spread of cancerous cells in the biliary tract.
