Alcohol consumption may be a risk factor for pneumonia.

This research work studied the effect of alcohol consumption on the risk of contracting community-acquired pneumonia. Researchers used data from eligible studies that assessed the link between alcohol intake and the likelihood of acquiring pneumonia.

Researchers noted that the probability of coming down with pneumonia was higher among alcohol drinkers than in non-consumers of alcoholic beverages. The results of this study demonstrate that regular drinking of alcohol may increase an individual's susceptibility to pneumonia.
