Hydrochlorothiazide use and risk of nonmelanoma skin cancer: A nationwide case-control study from Denmark.

High skin cancer risk is associated with the use of hydrochlorothiazide.

​This study investigated the connection between the intake of the antihypertensive drug hydrochlorothiazide and the tendency of developing skin cancer. Researchers used data extracted from both the Danish Cancer and Prescription Registries. 

Researchers noted that the use of hydrochlorothiazide is associated with the onset of nonmelanoma skin cancer. The findings of this study suggest that regular intake of hydrochlorothiazide may be a contributing factor to the development of skin cancer.
