Association Between the Use of Thiazide Diuretics and the Risk of Skin Cancers: A Meta-Analysis of Observational Studies.

Regular intake of thiazide diuretics may promote the development of skin cancer.

Thiazide diuretics are one of the most prescribed antihypertensive drugs. The study investigated the effect of the use of thiazide diuretics on the risk of skin cancer by means of a meta-analysis. A total of 9 studies were considered for this meta-analysis.

Researchers discovered that the risk of skin cancer went up with the intake of thiazide diuretics. "Our results suggested that the use of thiazide diuretics may be associated with an increased risk of skin cancers," the authors concluded.
