Use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and risk of stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Individuals receiving selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) may be highly vulnerable to stroke attacks.

​This meta-analysis investigated the hypothesis that the intake of antidepressant drugs in the class of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) can increase the risk of stroke. Researchers reviewed data and evidence extracted from 13 studies. 

Researchers observed that exposure to SSRIs put an individual at high risk of developing all types of strokes, including ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke. This study points out the detriment effect SSRIs may have on stroke risk.
