Users of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors may be faced with increased risk of fracturing a bone.

‚ÄčThis meta-analysis investigated evidence from previously published studies that focused on the association between the intake of antidepressants belonging to the classes of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) and the odds of fracturing a bone. Data from 23 studies were evaluated in this meta-analysis.

Researchers discovered that the risk of experiencing a fracture increased by 1.67-fold among users of SSRIs. This study highlights the fracture-promoting effect of SSRIs.
