​Habitual consumption of fiber-rich foods may protect individuals from developing stroke for the first time.

This study examined the relationship between dietary fiber intake and the risk of suffering from first stroke attack using a meta-analytic approach. Data from eight cohort studies that were conducted in United States, Northern Europe, Australia, and Japan between January 1990 and May 2012 were included in this meta-analysis.

The researchers observed that subjects on high-fiber diets had low chances of developing both ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke for the first time. The findings of this study reveal that regular consumption of high-fiber foods may contribute positively to the prevention of stroke.
