Sweeteners and Risk of Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes: The Role of Sugar-Sweetened Beverages.

Habitual intake of sugar-sweetened beverages, such as fruit drinks, soft drinks, energy drinks,and vitamin water drinks, is associated with high obesity and type 2 diabetes risk.

​This study examined the role of regular consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSB) in the development of obesity and type 2 diabetes. Researchers analyzed data and evidence obtained from several observational and experimental studies. They found out that frequent consumers of sugar-sweetened beverages, such as fruit drinks, soft drinks, energy drinks, and vitamin water drinks, demonstrated a significant increase in obesity and type 2 diabetes development risk. The findings of this study reveal that high intake of sugar-sweetened beverages may promote weight gain, obesity, and the development of type 2 diabetes.
