Frequent consumers of French fries may have increased likelihood of suffering from cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and obesity.

This study examined how the consumption of potatoes influenced the risk of developing cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and obesity in healthy adults using a meta-analytic approach. Data extracted from 13 studies were analyzed in this meta-analysis.

Researchers observed that the chances of developing obesity and type 2 diabetes were high in individuals who regularly consumed French fries. In contrast, no association was found between increased potato intake and the likelihood of having obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease risk in this study. The findings of this study add to the existing body of evidence that French fries may accelerate the onset of obesity and type 2 diabetes.
