Higher consumption of ultra-processed foods is associated with obesity and abdominal obesity in socially vulnerable Brazilian women
Fondness for ultra-processed foods may give rise to abdominal and general body obesity in women.
This research work studied the impact of ultra-processed food consumption on the incidence of obesity in women. Researchers tracked the dietary patterns and body weights of 1,702 Brazilian women.
Researchers noted that participants who consumed generous amounts of ultra-processed foods were 1.3 times more likely to accumulate excess fats in their abdomen and other parts of their body and become obese than their counterparts who avoided these foods. This study strengthened the body of evidence supporting the notion that high dietary ingestion of ultra-processed foods may promote the development of both abdominal and general body obesity in women.
