Ultra-Processed Food Intake and Risk of Insomnia: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Indulgence in ultra-processed foods may trigger the onset of insomnia, particularly among adolescents.

This study set out to unravel the puzzle linking the intake of ultra-processed foods (UPF) with the development of insomnia. Researchers performed a meta-analysis on data compiled from 7 studies.

Data analysis showed a spike in the incidence of insomnia among individuals, especially adolescents, who ate the most amounts of ultra-processed foods. "Our findings underscore a significant association between higher consumption of UPFs and increased risk of insomnia, particularly among adolescents," the study concluded.
