Higher anthocyanin intake is associated with lower depressive symptoms in adults with and without major depressive disorder
Generous consumption of anthocyanins from fruits and vegetables may help curtail the development of depressive symptoms in men and women.
This study explored the connection between dietary intake of anthocyanins and the odds of suffering from depressive symptoms. A total of 96 individuals enrolled for this study, provided information about their eating habits, and reported the presence or absence of absence of depressive symptoms.
Researchers discovered that participants who preferred consuming anthocyanins present in fruits and vegetables were less likely to experience symptoms of depression. This study demonstrated that encouraging the ingestion of anthocyanins from fruits and vegetables may help to ward off depression in men and women.
