Meta-analysis of the association between dietary inflammatory index and cognitive health

Fondness for pro-inflammatory foods may impair cognitive function and accelerate the development of Alzheimer's disease.

This meta-analysis compiled data from published studies that explored the connection between the intake of pro-inflammatory foods and cognitive function. Data from 12 studies were reviewed for this meta-analysis.

Data analysis revealed that generous consumption of pro-inflammatory foods reduced performance in the global function and verbal fluency domains of cognition and promoted the development of mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease. This meta-analysis corroborated the results of previous studies linking a pro-inflammatory diet with increased risk of cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease.
