Sugar-Sweetened Beverage Consumption Is Adversely Associated with Childhood Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
Indulgence in sugar-sweetened beverages may bump up a child's risk of suffering from attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
This study ascertained the association between avid drinking of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) and the occurrence of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children. Researchers compared the frequency of consumption of sugary beverages among 173 children diagnosed with ADHD and 159 children without this condition.
Researchers noticed that a large proportion of children with ADHD were fond of drinking of sugar-sweetened beverages. Evidence from this study suggest that high dietary ingestion of sugary beverages might be one of the factors that promote the development of ADHD in children.
