Association between junk food consumption and mental health problems in adults: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Avid intake of junk foods may raise an individual's risk of developing mental health disorders, such as depression and psychological stress.
This meta-analysis aimed to review existing studies that focused on the association between indulgence in junk foods and the probability of suffering from mental health disorders. A total of 17 studies involving nearly 160,000 men and women met the inclusion criteria for this meta-analysis.
Researchers discovered that elevated consumption of junk foods increased an individual's propensity to experience mental health disorders, such as depression and psychological stress. This study further affirmed the harmful effect of junk foods on mental health.
