Association between composite dietary antioxidant index and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in adults: results of NHANES 2015-2020 and Mendelian randomisation study

Incorporating more antioxidant-containing foods to our diets may help protect us against chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

This study clarified the association between the frequency of consumption of antioxidant-rich foods and the chances of developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Using dietary questionnaires, researchers collected and evaluated data on the nutritional habits of 9,295 US men and women. The chronic obstructive pulmonary disease diagnosis rates in the study group were ascertained using hospital records.

Researchers observed a downward trend in the incidence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease among participants with high intake of antioxidant-containing foods. This study documented a favorable association between heightened dietary ingestion of antioxidants and diminished risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
