Dietary inflammatory impact on NAFLD development in obese vs. lean individuals: an analysis based on NHANES 2003-2018
Hopping on the pro-inflammatory diet train may lead to the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in both lean and obese individuals.
The aim of this study was to understand the interplay between the inflammatory properties of a diet and the odds of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) occurring in both lean and obese individuals. Researchers collated data on the dietary choices and estimated the NAFLD risk of more than 5,000 men and women.
Researchers observed that avid intake of pro-inflammatory foods drove up the risk of NAFLD in both lean and obese participants. This study suggested that fondness for pro-inflammatory foods may give rise to NAFLD in men and women irrespective of their weight.
