Consistent consumption of protein from vegetables may reduce the likelihood of gallstones in women.

‚ÄčThis study was carried out to determine whether high intake of protein from vegetable sources contributes positively to the prevention of gallstones in women. Researchers tracked the diets and frequency of occurrence of gallstone disease in more than 130,000 postmenopausal women recruited from the Women's Health Initiative Prospective Cohort.

Researchers observed reduced risk of gallbladder in women at the top of the vegetable intake ladder compared to their peers at the bottom. This study adds to the evidence that women can reduce their risk of gallbladder by increasing their consumption of vegetables.
