Carbonated Beverages and Chronic Kidney Disease.

Frequent consumers of cola beverages may have a high tendency of developing chronic kidney disease.

This study explored the relationship between regular drinking of carbonated beverages and the likelihood of developing chronic kidney disease. Researchers followed and evaluated 932 subjects with regards to their sugary beverage intake and relative risk of chronic kidney disease.

Researchers found out that the consumption of two or more colas per day heightened the risk of developing chronic kidney disease. In contrast, high intake of noncola carbonated beverages had no significant effect on chronic kidney disease risk in this study. The results o this study indicate that drinking large amounts of cola beverages may increase an individual's susceptibility to chronic kidney disease.
