Association between dietary inflammatory index and risk of chronic kidney disease and low glomerular filtration rate; a systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies
Sticking to a pro-inflammatory diet may impair glomerular function and put an individual at risk of developing chronic kidney disease (CKD).
This study assessed how a pro-inflammatory diet affects estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) risk. Researchers performed an in-depth analysis of data drawn out from 13 studies.
Researchers identified a trend of low estimated glomerular filtration rate and high chronic kidney disease risk among followers of a pro-inflammatory diet. The take-away from this study is that increased dietary exposure to pro-inflammatory foods may lead to a decline in glomerular filtration rate and give rise to chronic kidney disease.
