Intake of ultra-processed foods and asthenozoospermia odds: A hospital-based case-control study

Elevated consumption of ultra-processed foods may raise a man's risk of developing asthenozoospermia.

Asthenozospermia is a common cause of male infertility that is characterized by reduced sperm motility. This study explored the connection between high dietary ingestion of ultra-processed foods (UPFs) and the probability of developing asthenozoospermia. Researchers assessed the ultra-processed food intake levels and semen parameters of 1,130 Chinese men who were attending infertility clinics. 

Researchers discovered that men fond of eating ultra-processed foods had a high tendency of suffering from asthenozoospermia. This study concluded that "higher consumption of UPFs was positively associated with the odds of asthenozoospermia."
