The purpose of this study was to systematically analyze the role high sodium (salt) diet plays in the development of hypertension. Researchers compiled data and evidence extracted from 11 studies.

Data analysis revealed that the likelihood of being diagnosed with hypertension went up with greater consumption of salty foods. This study recommends the cutting down of salty foods as a viable preventive measure against hypertension.
