Habitual drinking of sweetened beverages may give rise to type 2 diabetes in men and women.

This study was carried out to unravel the puzzle linking sweetened beverage consumption with the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Researchers followed more than 35,000 Australian men and women, monitoring the sugary beverage drinking habits and type 2 diabetes incidence rates in the study population.
