The association between type 2 diabetes and dietary antioxidant index: a cross-sectional study in the Iranian population

Adhering to a antioxidant-rich diet may help stave off type 2 diabetes mellitus in men and women.

This study aimed to understand the interplay between dietary intake of antioxidants and an individual's propensity to develop type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Data on the diets and health of 4,241 Iranian men and women were obtained from validated food frequency questionnaires and hospital records.

Researchers noticed that favoring the consumption of high antioxidant diets drove down type 2 diabetes risk. This study pointed out that optimal ingestion of antioxidants from food sources may help combat the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus in men and women.
