Sugar intake from sweetened beverages and diabetes: A narrative review

Fondness for sugar-sweetened beverages may foster the development of type 2 diabetes in men and women.

This meta-analysis investigated the sugary beverage-type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) connection hypothesis. Researchers compiled data from eligible studies. 

Researchers found a strong link between increased rate of consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages and a decline in the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus. This study arrived at the conclusion that preference for sugary beverages may facilitate the development of type 2 diabetes in men and women.
