Sex-specific associations between dietary legume subtypes and type 2 diabetes in a prospective cohort study

Shoring up the consumption of legumes may help improve an individual's likelihood of enjoying a life devoid of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

This study was carried out to affirm the protective effect a high legume diet exerts against type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Researchers recruited 16,666 Korean men and women whose nutritional and health information were obtained through validated food frequency questionnaires and hospital records.

Researchers discovered that ardent consumers of legumes exhibited a significant drop in their type 2 diabetes risk. This study offered additional insight into the beneficial role legume consumption can play in keeping type 2 diabetes mellitus at bay.
