Fruit and vegetable intake and incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus: systematic review and meta-analysis.

Low type 2 diabetes risk is associated with frequent consumers of diets rich in green leafy vegetables.

This research work was carried out to determine the correlation between the consumption of fruits and vegetables and the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Researchers analyzed dietary and clinical data obtained from 10 published literatures.

Researchers discovered that high dietary intake of green leafy vegetables decreased the likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes by 14%. On the other hand, increased consumption of other types of vegetables, fruits, and combined vegetables and fruit diets had little or no significant effect on type 2 diabetes risk. The findings of this meta-analysis reveal that generous intake of diets high in green leafy vegetables may help prevent the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
