Type 1 diabetes is more likely to occur in children who regularly consumed cow's milk.

This study examined the relationship between the intake of cow's milk and the odds of developing insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (type 1 diabetes) in children. A team of researchers from Aker Diabetes Research Center, Oslo, Norway, looked at data on the cow's milk consumption levels and type 1 diabetes incidence rates among children between the ages of 0 – 14 years in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Netherlands, France, Japan, Canada, New Zealand, Great Britain, and United States.

The researcher team found a positive correlation between increase in the frequency of cow's milk consumption and elevated type 1 diabetes risk. The results of this study indicate that high dietary ingestion of cow's milk may contribute to the development of type 1 diabetes in children.
