Fast food consumption and gestational diabetes incidence in the SUN project.

High dietary ingestion of fast foods before pregnancy may make gestational diabetes more likely to occur in women during pregnancy.

This study aimed to determine the role high pre-pregnancy consumption of fast foods play in the development of gestational diabetes. Researchers compared the fondness for fast foods before pregnancy with the rate of occurrence of gestation diabetes in a study population comprising of over 3,000 women who had never been diagnosed with diabetes or gestational diabetes.

Researchers observed that a surge in the risk of gestation diabetes was associated with frequent ingestion of fast foods before pregnancy. This study points out that fondness for fast foods may increase a woman's chances of developing gestational diabetes.
