​Generous consumption of whole grains is associated with a decline coronary heart disease development risk in women.

​This study examined how frequent consumption of whole grains influences the risk of developing coronary heart disease (CHD) in women. A team of researchers from Harvard Medical School followed 75,521 women recruited from the Nurses' Health Study for 10 years, monitoring their dietary habits and incidence of coronary heart disease.

The research team discovered that the higher the amounts of whole grains consumed, the lower the risk of developing coronary heart disease in women. "Increased intake of whole grains may protect against CHD," concluded the authors of this study.
