Smoking and Risk of Coronary Heart Disease in Younger, Middle-Aged, and Older Adults

Cigarette smokers may be highly vulnerable to coronary heart disease (CHD).

This study examined whether an association exists between cigarette smoking and the risk of developing coronary heart disease (CHD). Researchers reviewed data obtained from 8 studies that evaluated more than 250,000 men and women.

Researchers found a high incidence of coronary heart disease among cigarette smokers. The results of this study show that cigarette smoking may increase an individual's susceptibility to coronary heart disease.
