​Women who are frequent consumers of fruits and vegetables may be less prone to come down with heart failure.

This investigated the association between fruit and vegetable intake and the occurrence of heart failure in women. Scientists from the Institute of Environmental Medicine, Karoslinka Institute, Sweden, looked at the dietary data of 34,319 women between the ages of 49 – 83 years and without a previous history of cancer and cardiovascular disease and assessed the relative risk of heart failure in each participant in the study population.

Researchers observed reduced risk of heart failure in women in the highest quartile of fruit and vegetable consumption compared to their colleagues in the lowest quartile. The results of this study suggest that increased intake of fruits and vegetables may reduce the incidence of heart failure in women.
