Loading our plates with fruits and vegetables filled with flavonoids may help us in our quest to prevent coronary heart disease.

This meta-analysis examined the results of studies that evaluated the association between the consumption of flavonoids from fruits and vegetables and the probability of acquiring coronary heart disease (CHD). Researchers compiled data and evidence from 19 studies with over 890,000 participants. 

Data analysis revealed greater consumption of flavonoids from fruits and vegetables correlated a downward trend in coronary heart disease risk. This study suggests that fruits and vegetables high in flavonoids should be an integral part of a heart-healthy diet.
