Association between dietary inflammatory index and NT-proBNP levels in US adults: A cross-sectional analysis

Generous ingestion of pro-inflammatory foods may raise serum concentrations of NT-proBNP and heart failure risk in men and women.

High blood level of NT-proBNP is a risk factor for heart failure. This study examined how frequent intake of pro-inflammatory foods affects serum concentrations of NT-proBNP. Researchers analyzed the diets and regularly measured the plasma levels of NT-proBNP of 10,776 US men and women.

Researchers found elevated amounts of NT-proBNP circulating in the bloodstream of lovers of pro-inflammatory foods. The results of this study suggested that individuals who consume a more pro-inflammatory diet may have high blood levels of NT-proBNP and increased odds of heart failure.
