The association between dietary fiber intake and gastric cancer: a pooled analysis of 11 case-control studies
Optimal consumption of fiber-rich foods may help thwart the development of gastric (stomach) cancer in men and women.
This study performed a meta-analysis on data obtained from a pool of 11 scientific publications that examined the relationship between dietary intake of fiber and the risk of developing gastric (stomach) cancer. More than 4,500 patients with stomach cancer and 10,000 healthy men and women participated in these studies.
Researchers discovered that the likelihood of having gastric cancer plummeted as the rate of consumption of fiber-containing foods increased. This meta-analysis echoed the results of other studies that showed that greater adherence to a high fiber diet may help protect men and women against stomach cancer.
