Regular intake of citrus fruits may confer individuals with a lower risk of stomach cancer.

This study evaluated the association between the dietary ingestion of citrus fruits and gastric (stomach) cancer development odds. Researchers analyzed data and evidence extracted from 5 cohort studies.

Researchers found a low incidence of gastric cancer among subjects who frequently consumed large servings of citrus fruits.  The consumption of 100g of citrus fruits per day was found to reduce the risk of developing cancer in cardiac region of the stomach by 40% in this study. The findings of this study indicate that high intake of citrus fruits may help prevent the development of cancerous cells in the stomach.
