Lycopene and Risk of Prostate Cancer: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

High intake of lycopene-rich foods may help guard against the development of prostate cancer.

This study investigated the role consistent consumption of lycopene-rich foods, such as tomatoes, play in the prevention of prostate cancer. Researchers reviewed data and evidence from 28 studies that examined the diets of 563,299 subjects and compared the prostate cancer odds ratios of all the participants.

Researchers observed that increased dietary intake of lycopene and high plasma circulating levels of lycopene diminished the odds of developing prostate cancer. The findings of this meta-analysis show that adhering to diets rich in foods with high lycopene content may help ward off prostate cancer.
